Girls Who Code is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Discord Moderator to join our 2025 Summer Immersion Program team. As a Discord Moderator, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging online community for our students. Our program is designed to educate, inspire, and equip high school girls and non-binary students with the skills and resources to pursue academics and careers in technology and engineering.

Program Overview

Our Summer Immersion Program is a unique and innovative program that provides students with a comprehensive computer science education, including Game Design, Cybersecurity, Web Design, Data Science, and AI. As a Discord Moderator, you will be responsible for supporting our students, assigning roles, posting announcements and discussion starters, co-facilitating Community Events, and moderating student contributions in our Discord server.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Discord Moderator pre-training and co-facilitate the Discord training session for your program
  • Support student onboarding to the GWC Discord server and assign student roles
  • Moderate and ensure a safe and productive Discord server environment
  • Support community building by posting engaging questions, updates, and responding to student posts
  • Communicate regularly with your manager and collaborate with other Discord Moderators and teaching staff
  • Act as a representative of Girls Who Code and follow all escalation procedures for student issues

Qualifications

  • Rising senior in college or equivalent level of experience
  • Ability to commit to working up to 20 hours per week during the program
  • Passion for building a supportive online community for young people
  • Prior experience moderating online communities or comparable experience
  • Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Girls Who Code programs
  • Experience with at least one programming language (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python)
  • Previous teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience, especially in computer science
