Major Duties & Responsibilities:

The BI Developer and Analytics Specialist will be responsible for data acquisition, manipulation, visualization, and communication. They will also be responsible for completing analytical reports to clients using current methods, while supporting the growth of analytics capabilities as the department evolves. This role helps clients identify risk factors and summarizes key takeaways for clients. The BI developer/analytics specialist will often receive a request for an analysis from an account manager, will work with the account manager to develop a timeframe and hourly budget, and complete the analysis on time and within allotted/budgeted project hours. The BI developer/analytics specialist will need to communicate with internal parties (such as account managers, sales executives, and subject matter experts like ergonomists and industrial hygienists) as well as external parties such as managers at client companies or executives of brokerage firms.

Additional Responsibilities include:
• Use of object-oriented python programming and Jupyter Notebook (Jupyter Lab) to manipulate data received in batches or extracted from database;
• Acquiring data from SQL using SQL script to query.
• Loading, visualizing, and analyzing data in Power BI, and making dashboards Using Power BI that follow data visualization best practices.
• Analysis of commercial insurance claims data (workers compensation, auto liability, general liability) to show trends over time, concentrations of injuries by categorical variables, such as causes, injury types, location, etc.
• Providing graphs and charts of air quality measurements by location over time.
• Visualizing basic correlations between insurance claims costs and relevant factors.

Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required, consideration will be given to the following fields:
• Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), or Information Systems (IS), Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Chemistry, Epidemiology, or other science-related fields also considered if you bring knowledge of python, programming best practices, statistics, and Power BI experience.
• Proficient experience with developing dashboards using Power BI (with understanding of DAX), with 3-5 years of experience.
• Strong proficiency with Python for data manipulation/cleaning, visualization, and analysis with 3-5 years of experience.
• 3-5 years of experience with python writing modular, object-oriented, and well-documented code.
• 3-5 years of experience performing data analysis, visualizing data, and/or summarizing insights from data.
• Strong experience using SQL to query and extract data from databases with 3-5 years of experience.
• Understanding of data warehousing concepts.
• Proficient and flexible use of Microsoft Excel including use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions.
• Effective communication – the ability to convey technical topics to a nontechnical audience.
• Comfort with presenting findings to clients.
• Proficient and flexible use of Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
• Excellent time management.
• The ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively with professionals in various departments.
• The ability to learn how to use new tools quickly and to rapidly grasp concepts in fields outside your own.
• Preferred experience with commercial insurance claims data, particularly workers compensation data.
• Willingness to work with non-claims data (ergonomic assessments, industrial hygiene samples, or other data sources).
