Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director for Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Officer will provide a safe and secure environment for the Hartwick College community. This will involve enforcing college rules, regulations, and policies, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance to students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Enforce college rules, regulations, and policies in a fair and equal manner
- Respond to emergencies and provide assistance to students, faculty, and staff
- Conduct mobile patrols of campus roadways and parking areas
- Complete random foot patrols of residence halls and academic buildings
- Open and secure academic and administrative buildings
- Prepare reports of incidents, policy violations, and conditions requiring administrative follow-up
- Provide medical transport when needed
- Maintain traffic control points and detours for on-campus construction and events
- Assist students and staff with building and room lockouts
- Make timely notifications to supervisors and other college staff of emergencies and hazardous situations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of six months to one year of experience in a customer-service related field
- Ability to frequently carry 20-30 pounds and occasionally carry 50 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the college
- Working knowledge of Windows-based computer software and ability to learn new programs
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
