Job Description:

The Middle School Science Teacher will play a vital role in providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas. The successful candidate will develop lesson plans and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborate with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues, and respond to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and maintain leadership and positive relationships while focusing on high expectations and continuous improvement for student learning.
  • Design instruction to ensure all students are engaged and participating in individual and classroom learning objectives.
  • Develop and guide learning in partnership with students to ensure continuous improvement for student learning in alignment with state and district standards.
  • Evaluate individual student and class performance to gauge and adjust instruction to improve individual and class performance.
  • Implement current best practice instruction and resources to improve and enhance student learning in alignment with state and district standards.
  • Maintain documentation and required reports to comply with site, district, policy, administrative, state, and/or federal statutes and regulations.
  • Manage classroom structure and procedures to establish a positive, safe, and orderly optimal learning environment to support students in achieving classroom and individual goals.
  • Model positive behaviors to promote appropriate social and interpersonal behavior in alignment with district goals.
  • Oversee assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to ensure the operation of an effective and efficient classroom structure that supports the teacher and students in achieving classroom and individual goals.
  • Participate in meetings to convey and/or gather information to perform functions.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Current Louisiana teacher certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Proficient in general use of a computer, email, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.
