Police Officer (Entry-Level, Academy Graduate, or Out-of-State Lateral)

You’ll start by attending a POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Basic Training Academy with salary. During the 6-month Academy program, you will learn the core skills that go into being a Police Officer, completing 1,000 hours of training. Not only will we pay you through the Academy, we do everything in our power to ensure you succeed. We will assign you an Academy Liaison to help guide you through the process and provide extra training should you need it. Once you graduate, you will be promoted to Police Officer and start in-house training. Your first 3 to 4 weeks at the Department will prime you to do police work the Fremont way: meet everybody, get used to our in-house systems, learn our Department policies, and become familiar with our report writing style, etc. Then you’ll embark on a minimum of 19 weeks of the Field Training Program with a Field Training Officer (FTO). With close mentorship and sufficient training, we expect you to work independently in about 12 months from the start of Academy. The Probationary Period is 24 months.
