The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking to hire a student assistant to support various Information Technology (IT) teams, including network, cloud, infrastructure, database, and service desk operations. The Student Assistant will assist with administrative, technical, and analytical tasks, gaining hands-on experience in industry best practices, troubleshooting, customer service, and project coordination within a professional IT environment.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Work Schedule
F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Compensation
$16.50 – $21.13 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
• Basic understanding of networking, cloud environments, databases, and IT infrastructure.
• Ability to perform troubleshooting, analyze system issues, and assist with configuration and account management.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills for tracking incidents, processes, and technical procedures.
• Ability to work independently or as part of team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of stakeholders.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and customer service skills for interacting with internal teams and end-users.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with Python, NodeJS, and terraform.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Working knowledge of computer programming fundamentals and/or functional programming.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Work with network, infrastructure, cloud, database, and service desk teams to learn, support, and perform assigned tasks including incident tracking, reporting, and resolution processes.
• Assist in documentation, record-keeping, and process tracking for technical operations and support various technology-related projects and operational, cloud security, and compliance initiatives as needed.
• Perform in-depth troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Analyze and diagnose operational challenges related to connectivity, system performance, and service disruptions.
• Assist with configuration updates and system adjustments.
• Escalate critical issues to the appropriate teams.
• Document troubleshooting steps and resolutions for knowledge management.
• Assist with account provisioning and access management for cloud-based services, support deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of cloud and infrastructure environments.
• Assist with basic network and system configurations; contribute to database management tasks, including data entry, reporting, and performance tracking; assist with automation and infrastructure management tasks.
• Respond to customer inquiries, service requests, and incident reports.
• Support loaner equipment check-in/out and maintenance.
• Perform password resets and access management tasks.
• Assist with remote software installations and troubleshooting.
• Document technical procedures and updates for knowledge-sharing platforms.
• Assist with data reporting and analytics for service desk operations.
Provide backup support for hardware setup, manual installations, and document processing.
• Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a remote environment.
Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
