Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Product Designer to join our team in Arlington, TX. As a Product Designer, you will be responsible for creating and developing products that meet the business requirements, item practical requirements, and performance expectations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Design, Research, Technical Design, Manufacturing, Packaging, Vendors, Purchasing, and Merchants to ensure consistency of product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Unite strategic and analytical thinking to create a vision for products that exceed guests’ expectations through unexpected quality at amazing prices.
  • High ability to critically dissect market brands, launches, and trends to communicate innovatively and clearly “what it means for Target” – visually capturing both a holistic POV + the individual elements that make up its DNA.
  • Ability to identify white space opportunity at the brand and category level and create compelling visual presentations that clearly outline an exciting opportunity and solution.
  • Ability to present and review work regularly with Director and Sr. Leaders is essential; as well as participation at design meetings to address perspective and product as appropriate.
  • Be skilled at creating and presenting a clear perspective/vision for the brand/product alongside other Designers and Researchers using key drivers, costing objectives, trend ideas, Guest needs/values, and market data.
  • Collaborate with individual Designers, Trend Planner, Researchers, Technical Designers, Manufacturing, Packaging, Vendors, Purchasing, and Merchants to understand business drivers, item practical requirements, and performance expectations to ensure consistency of product.
  • Should demonstrate an understanding of divisional key drivers and proactively work to implement supporting product strategies.
  • Make and design product through sketches, mood boards, renderings, models, and control drawings that meet business strategy.
  • Formulate and design fragrance strategy at a brand and category level through collaboration with Fragrance Houses and communicate that strategy through compelling visuals and descriptions.
  • Co-lead Product and Fragrance testing with buyers.
  • Collaborate with Merchants, Purchasing, and Researchers to ensure figured and non-figured product designs are manufacturable and meet set price points; participate in Cross-Functional Team meetings (including Design, Vendors, Purchasing, Packaging, and Compliance).
  • Sharp focus on creating formed products that meet brand expectation for style, quality, performance, value, and outcome.
  • Should use judgment/discretion to make decisions on product direction and changes or escalate appropriately.
  • Clear and timely communication with external partners via timely sample assessments, understanding current manufacturing processes, developments constraints, and to ensure the brand vision is properly understood and executed.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Fine Arts, or related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of relevant beauty experience (formed and non-formed).
  • Technical skills: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PPT, or basic computer design system skills.
  • Passionate about the total beauty and personal care industries.
  • Shows a positive attitude.
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Open to navigating ambiguity and bringing a distinct vision to life.
  • Demonstrated creative sense and ability, including trend/market awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to lead creative, focused, visual presentations.
  • Ability to work and lead others in a team environment effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, often changing collaborative environment.
  • Ability to communicate business and design details across different department levels.
  • Ability to travel on an as-needed basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a retail or consumer goods industry.
  • Knowledge of product development processes and procedures.
  • Experience with project management tools and software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
