Position Summary
This entry‑level remote role handles data-intensive tasks to support CDTFA’s mission. The Tax Technician I will process, enter, verify, and maintain taxpayer and compliance records while working remotely. Under close supervision, this position ensures accuracy and consistency in support of CDTFA’s tax programs.
Key Responsibilities
• Receive and screen digital documents from CDTFA divisions and external partners.
• Scan/upload files, manually enter data, and perform accuracy checks.
• Create and update taxpayer accounts via registration and maintenance systems.
• Review documentation for use tax liability, tax exemptions, or missing information.
• Generate and send system-produced correspondence (emails or letters).
• Communicate with taxpayers via phone or email to resolve billing or compliance issues.
• Maintain virtual record folders and adhere to secure data storage procedures.
• Use authorized systems to verify account accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with onboarding and guide new remote team members.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in accounting, business or finance preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and web‑based data systems.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in fast-paced remote settings.
• Excellent organizational, time‑management, and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work independently, reliably, and securely in a remote environment.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills
• Customer service experience, especially via remote channels.
• Familiarity with tax laws, regulatory procedures, or data-driven roles.
• Prior experience as a data entry clerk, clerical worker, or government employee.
